Miami football: Tyler Van Dyke has entered the transfer portal
By John Strong
The transfer portal never sleeps. Hours after a great quarterback (Kansas State quarterback Will Howard) entered the transfer portal, another one has entered. Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke has entered his name into the transfer portal. He has entered his name in the transfer portal as a graduate transfer.
Van Dyke has thrown for 7,469 passing yards and 54 passing touchdowns during his time with the Hurricanes. The junior threw for 2,703 passing yards for 19 passing touchdowns and 12 interceptions this year and his best season was in 2021, where he threw for 2,931 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns, and six interceptions.
Van Dyke has the potential to be one of the best quarterbacks in the country. This is his chance to restart his college career, and he hopes that spot will help him get to the NFL.
Van Dyke was a former three-star recruit in the class of 2020 out of Glastonbury, Conn. Before committing to the Hurricanes, Van Dyke unofficially visited Boston College, Georgia Tech, and Purdue. He also held offers from Kentucky, Michigan, Syracuse, and Wisconsin.
I believe Kentucky, Notre Dame, and Wisconsin could be potential landing spots for Van Dyke. All teams have quarterbacks that will likely not return to college for the 2024 season.
Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman and Wisconsin quarterback Tanner Mordecai used their final year of eligibility this season. Kentucky quarterback Devin Leary has not decided if he will apply for a medical hardship waiver yet. He will have the option to play for another season. Those schools will be looking for a veteran quarterback next season, and Van Dyke could be one of the better ones in the transfer portal.
