Top 5 potential landing spots for Will Howard in the transfer portal
Kansas State quarterback Will Howard has entered the transfer portal and here are five landing spots that make sense.
The transfer portal should be wild once again in college football, especially when it comes to the quarterback position and one of the top players available is former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard, who announced he’s entering the portal on Monday.
Howard led Kansas State to the Big 12 championship in 2022, taking over for Adrian Martinez partway through the year. Will Howard also had a solid season in 2023 throwing for 24 touchdowns compared to 10 interceptions. He also ranked 20th in QBR according to ESPN.
Howard has 48 career touchdown passes as well as 5,786 yards. Beyond that, Will Howard has 19 career rushing touchdowns and two different seasons with more than 350 rushing yards.
So where could Will Howard wind up in the transfer portal? Here are five destinations that make a lot of sense.
Notre Dame football
C.J. Carr is signing with the Fighting Irish and they have some other young quarterbacks that could take over in 2024, but Marcus Freeman really needs to make the 12-team playoff.
The Irish are probably going to fall short of a New Year’s Six bowl game for the second year in a row and putting your eggs in the basket of an unproven quarterback is risky for the Notre Dame football head coach.
Howard is a pro-style quarterback who can run. He might not be the best passer available in the transfer portal when it’s all said and done but for Notre Dame football, landing a guy like Howard would give them the best chance of a playoff season in 2024.
And the way Notre Dame football runs the ball, as well as the offensive line and skill guys, it would have to be temping for the former Kansas State QB.
