Coastal football: Grayson McCall has entered the transfer portal
By John Strong
Another day, another great quarterback has entered the transfer portal. Today it was Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall. McCall has entered his name into the portal as a graduate transfer, and he will have one more year of eligibility remaining.
During the 2023 season, McCall had 1,919 passing yards, 10 passing touchdowns, and six interceptions. He went down with an injury earlier this season after a hard hit against Arkansas State. He has not played in a game since his injury in the Arkansas State game.
McCall’s best span as the starter of the Chanticleers was during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. McCall threw for 5,573 yards, 51 touchdowns, and only five interceptions. Coastal Carolina also had 20 wins and six losses during that time span.
Grayson McCall was originally a two-star recruit in the class of 2019. He only had reported offers from Army, Chattanooga, Eastern Kentucky, Gardner-Webb, and Appalachian State. It is safe to say that he turned into something more than a two-star.
McCall enters the transfer portal as a four-star transfer today. It is hard to imagine a world where Grayson McCall does not end up at Auburn. McCall entered the transfer portal last season, and there was mutual interest between McCall and the Auburn Tigers. McCall had a visit scheduled as well. It was an academic issue. Now that McCall has graduated, there will be no academic issues.
Auburn does have a big quarterback room with the likes of Robby Ashford, Holden Geriner, and Payton Thorne in it. The fit between Auburn and Grayson McCall just seems like a great one.
