The transfer portal has had a strong position so far, and that is quarterback. The transfer portal will not officially open until Dec. 4. Another great quarterback has entered the transfer portal. This time, it is Duke quarterback Riley Leonard. He is entering the transfer portal with a “do not contact” tag. That means he already knows where he is going.

Leonard is leaving Duke after former head coach Mike Elko took the head coaching job at Texas A&M. He may have left either way, but the head coach’s leaving is the best one.

Leonard threw for 4,450 yards and 24 touchdowns. Then add on his production in the rushing game: 229 carries for 1,224 yards and 19 touchdowns. He had a 131.9 passer rating during his time with the Blue Devils. It is safe to say the junior is ready for the next step in his college career.

Leonard was a former three-star recruit in the class of 2021 out of Fairhope, Alabama. Leonard held offers from Nebraska, Ole Miss, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Syracuse, Tulane, and Vanderbilt. Leonard ended up choosing Duke out of all of those, which was a great decision on his part.

I would have normally said he would have followed his past head coach, Mike Elko, to Texas A&M, but that does not look like the case. All the buzz on social media right now is for him to end up with Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. That is a great fit for both sides, and I believe it will end up working out well for them.
