Predicting the final 2023 College Football Playoff field
I don’t think there will be any pushback with Texas at No. 3 in the final playoff field. The Longhorns finished the season with a 12-1 record and a blowout win over No. 18 Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship Game.
Texas hasn’t lost since the Red River Rivalry to No. 12 Oklahoma and that loss was in the final minute and was seconds away from being a win. If that was the case, the Longhorns could arguably be the No. 1 team in the nation because they do have the best win of the year so far. Sure, Alabama beat No. 1 Georgia in the SEC title game, but Texas went to Tuscaloosa and beat the No. 3 Crimson Tide in Week 2. That deserves a ton of respect — especially now.
The Longhorns beat four ranked teams this season: Kansas, Alabama, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State. Not too shabby.
After beating the No. 18 Cowboys 49-21 in the Big 12 title game, Texas secured a playoff spot, in my opinion. The Longhorns will jump teams like Oregon, Ohio State, and Florida State to slide into the top three.
