The best player to enter the transfer portal: ACC Edition
By John Strong
Syracuse:
Syracuse started the season at 4-0, and then the annual trend happened, and they lost six out of their last eight games, including a five-game losing streak. They ended up firing head coach Dino Babers and hiring Georgia defensive back coach Fran Brown to be their next head coach. Let’s see if he can turn the Orange around.
Coaching changes mean player changes happen. Surprisingly, they only had five players enter the transfer portal. The most notable is linebacker Leon Lowery. Lowery had 77 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, five sacks, and two pass deflections during his time with the Orange.
We will make this as simple as possible. Lowery committed to Wisconsin, de-committed a few days later and then re-committed a few days later.
Virginia:
The Cavaliers started the season with a 0-5 record, won two games against William & Mary and #10 North Carolina, and then ended the season with a 1-4 record. It was kind of a weird season for them; they were in the majority of their games but could not pull them out.
Virginia had ten players enter the transfer portal. The biggest one was Langston Long. Long had 56 tackles, three pass deflections, two tackles for loss, and a forced fumble in 18 games. He missed time during his time with Virginia because of an injury.
