Another big name entered the transfer portal on Wednesday night as Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy announced his departure from the Longhorns.

The move was surprising to some college football fans. Texas is playing in the College Football Playoff. Murphy has started games for this season and would have been the backup quarterback.

But you can understand why he would want to leave. In fact, with the calender the way it is, he almost had to. The transfer portal window closes before the National Championship game, so Murphy wouldn't be able to enter the portal if he waited until after that and Texas wins in the Sugar Bowl.

With Quinn Ewers set to come back and Arch Manning also in the fold, it's clear that Maalik Murphy isn't going to be the future starter for the Horns.

Murphy was a top-200 recruit coming out of high school in the 2022 class. He had three touchdowns and three interceptions this season and here are six college football teams that should consider adding Maalik Murphy in the transfer portal.

Washington

The Huskies might be the opponent of the Longhorns in the playoff, but they need a new starting quarterback. Will Rogers has been projected to Washington and is visiting this weekend. Murphy has multiple years of eligibility though and does anyone doubt how Murphy would do playing for Kalen DeBoer?

Murphy has a big arm and talent isn't lacking. Steve Sarkisian is great at developing quarterbacks but DeBoer would be another great fit and he'd get the most of the former blue-chip recruit.
