Honesty is the best quality a head coach can have. No one wants to hear constant coachspeak because it's just the same recycled jargon over and over but Deion Sanders is cut from a different cloth.

The second-year Colorado football coach has been very open about pretty much everything since he's been in Boulder and even before that at Jackson State. Frankly, he's never changed his personality which is exactly why people are so drawn to him. He won't sugarcoat things or tell you what you want to hear. He'll be honest, almost to a fault.

And his players are well aware of this.

So when Sanders opened up about the state of the program when he took over before the 2023 season, it wasn't surprising to hear him knock the overall talent level, but the way he put it was a little shocking. He called the roster "horrendous" when he took over.

Sanders went on FOX Sports 'Undisputed' on Tuesday and spoke candidly about the roster when he took over and it was a little eye-opening.

"The roster was so horrendous we had to flip it," Sanders said. "We inherited some bull junk. So, we flipped it. Now we really have what we need, not just bodies walking around aimlessly."

The players who were on that original roster who were "processed" by Sanders had to read this quote and take it personally. I mean, there's no other way to take it. He essentially said that the roster was filled with bad players who walked around aimlessly.

Is this a fair shot? Maybe, but he could have worded it a little softer.

Either way, you have to give it up to Sanders for always being real. And this quote just puts more pressure on him to win this year as he's claimed a playoff is possible.
