Brent Pry went for quality over quantity in the portal this offseason and the strategy paid off. Virginia Tech isn’t sitting on mountains of NIL dollars like some bigger programs are, so Pry used his resources wisely, grabbing four quality transfers.

Pry’s biggest addition was Aeneas Peebles from Duke who was one of the best interior pass rushers in the country last season. Pry paired Peebles with Kelvin Gilliam Jr. another defensive lineman from Oklahoma and linebacker Sam Brumfield from Middle Tennessee. Suddenly, the Hokies are loaded in the defensive front seven.

The team’s only addition on offense was tackle Montavious Cunningham who will almost certainly start at one of the two tackle spots.

Tight end Daequan Wright left for Ole Miss, which was the most painful departure, but Pry’s staff came out on the positive end of the portal despite losing 12 players and adding four.
