Ranking every National Champion in the four-team College Football Playoff era
This LSU Tigers team might go down as one of the best teams in college football history. This team was complete in all phases of the game. They had a dominant offense that lit up the scoreboard, a defense that played well enough not to make games close, and a smart special teams unit.
Joe Burrow was insane during the 2019 season. The Ohio native unanimously won the Heisman trophy and threw under 300 yards only twice in the season. Burrow was surrounded by talent on the offense with Jamar Chase and Justin Jefferson in his wide receiver core and Clyde Edwards-Helaire as his running back, all three players taken in the first round of their drafts.
This LSU team took down No. 9 Texas, No. 9 Auburn, No. 3 Alabama, and No. 4 Georgia. In the semifinal against Oklahoma, the Tigers took down the Sooners 63-28 where Burrow threw for 493 yards and seven touchdowns and Jefferson had 221 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
LSU took down Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers 42-25 in the National Championship to cap off their undefeated season. This LSU team earned their spot at the top of these rankings. They were unstoppable and were not going to be denied all season long.
