Game 12 - at Baylor

It ain’t over til it’s over

West Virginia’s final Big 12 road test came against the Baylor Bears in Waco. This game saw a few swings in momentum as both teams took control at different points in the game. West Virginia got off to a 10-0 lead and had a 17-7 lead in the early part of the 2nd quarter.

The second half was a different story. Up until their final drive, West Virginia’s second-half possessions went like this:

4 plays, 1 yard, Punt

 5 plays, 20 yards, Punt

 5 plays, 24 yards, Punt

4 plays, 9 yards, Turnover on downs

These offensive struggles led to Baylor getting back into the game and eventually taking a 31-27 lead. After Isaiah Hankins missed a 32-yard field goal with just over a minute to play, the Mountaineers would have one last chance to find the end zone and win the game. Quarterback Garrett Greene engineered a 6 play 80-yard drive that went like this:

Drive Summary

Garrett Greene to Hudson Clement for 11 yards

Garrett Greene to Hudson Clement for 23 yards

Garrett Greene run for 8 yards

Garrett Greene run for 9 yards

 Garrett Greene incomplete pass

Garrett Greene to Jahiem White for 29 yards and a touchdown

Though things looked bleak for the Mountaineers as the 4th quarter wound to a close, Greene found a wide-open Jahiem White in the end zone for a go-ahead touchdown with 23 seconds remaining.
