Leonard Fournette is the best player in college football but he found another way to impress the nation with his breakaway speed that defies logic.

The superlatives have poured in for LSU sophomore running back Leonard Fournette this year as he is the heavy favorite to win the Heisman Trophy after running for more than 1,000 yards in his team’s first five games. That feat has only been accomplished 10 times in the history of the FBS, but what he did today against the South Carolina Gamecocks was just as rare.

Fournette is still two years away from participating at the NFL Combine but when he runs the 40-yard dash, you can expect the 6-1, 230-pound back to turn in a time sure to make heads spin and jaws drop.

During a 87-yard touchdown run against the Gamecocks on Saturday, Fournette found a hole and worked his way through before hitting another gear and stepping on the gas. He was clocked covering 40 yards in a time that is enough to have Olympic sprinter and the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, shaking his head.

Sure, this is a little different than lining up in a stance and running 40 yards like he’ll do at the Combine and pro day when that time comes, but if you’re hating on this time, you’re in need of a reality check because this may be the best running back you’ll see play college football in your lifetime.
