Texas A&M football put together an expected blow out against Lamar in Week 3 in which many players shined throughout the night. Let’s overreact.

The Aggies beat the Lamar Cardinals 62-3 in a game that they were expected to win without question. Many players got their chance to shine throughout the night, but again that was expected.

While a lot was expected, there is a lot that we learned about the team and a lot that I have to say — no matter how much they seem like an overreaction from a game that may have been more exciting as a scrimmage. Let’s overreact, shall we?

3. After three games, this defense is good

Yes, this team has played two nobody teams. They allowed a garbage-time touchdown against Texas State and a singular field goal to Lamar this past week. That is expected of a Mike Elko defense at this point.

What they can hang their hat on though, is only allowing Trevor Lawrence and No. 1 Clemson to put up 24 points on the board. They kept Travis Etienne in check for the most part and really kept themselves within shooting distance against Clemson- if only their offense could have kept up.

However, no one gave the Aggies much of a chance for this defense to be as great as it was a year ago with so many departed for the NFL. I think they have shown that they are going to be just fine. Look for this unit to be a big part of the matchup with No. 8 Auburn this coming weekend.

If the defense can keep Bo Nix and his offense in check as they did against Clemson, that game could get super interesting for the Aggies in a hurry.
