FWAA Names ULM Tositos Fiesta Bowl Team of the Week

The Football Writers Association of America announced ULM the Tositos Fiesta Bowl Team of the Week on Monday. The Warhawks stunned No. 8 Arkansas in a 34-31 overtime thriller on Saturday behind 412 yards passing and three touchdowns from quarterback Kolton Browning.
A Sun Belt Conference member had previously never beaten a top 10 ranked opponent. The last Sun Belt member to knock off an SEC foe was also ULM, which topped Alabama in 2007. ULM’s win Saturday marked just the fifth SBC win against the SEC in 95 tries.
“There were certainly people that doubted us,” ULM coach Todd Berry said per the FWAA’s press release. “I had a lot of faith. That doesn’t guarantee anything. But this team has great character.”
Other nominees this week included Arizona, which romped over No. 18 Oklahoma State, 59-38. The win propelled UA into both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Polls. Fellow Pac-12 member Oregon State also received a nomination for its 10-7 defeat of two-time reigning Big Ten champion Wisconsin. Rounding out the nominees was another Pac-12 program, UCLA. The Bruins knocked off Nebraska 36-30.
