Last night, Kent State, the MAC and a majority of the college football nation held their collective breaths when news came across the wire that the Golden Flashes’ star running back–and potential Heisman hopeful–Dri Archer had left the opener following the first drive with an ankle injury.

While not knowing the exact significance of the injury at the time, Archer may have shed some light on a potential prognosis.

According to Kevin McGuire of College Football Talk, a Kent State athletics official pointed out to them in an email that the speedster plans on taking the field when his Kent State squad opens the MAC season next week against Bowling Green.

Should this be the case, it would be a huge boost for this Kent State team which actually looked less than stellar last night against Liberty following Archer’s departure.

A speedy return would also be beneficial because Archer is one of the more exciting players in the country, no matter what conference he plays in. While thoughts of him contending for the Heisman may seem like a lofty dream to some, the youngster has all of the tools to prove the naysayers incorrect.
