The Big 12 had a better than expected opening week simply due to the fact that West Virginia and Oklahoma State played Alabama and Florida State respectively much tougher than anybody would have expected them to. These are middle of the pack to lower tier Big 12 teams who went toe to toe with two teams believed to be the best in their respective Power Five conferences and believed to be the two best teams in the country.

Everybody else had a nice first outing as well with the exception of Iowa State, who suffered a bad blowout home loss to North Dakota State. But Baylor and Oklahoma looked like championship caliber teams, Texas looked like it could be back sooner than we thought, and Kansas State and TCU could be fighting to get in the mix.

Unfortunately, the Big 12 took a page out of the SEC playbook and decided to create one of the most boring Week 2 schedules the world of college football has ever seen. There is only one conference game, Kansas State and Iowa State. Everybody else has games against non-Power Five schools.

The game that stands out the most is Texas-BYU simply because the Longhorns will be looking to get revenge after last year’s bad loss to the Cougars. Others that could be of some interest are Oklahoma-Tulsa and Texas Tech-UTEP, but we’re reaching here.

Let’s just accept the fact that the Big 12 and the SEC appear to have conspired to deprive college football fans of anything exciting in the second week of the season. And with that, here are the Big 12 predictions for Week 2.
