Saturday Blitz Conference Power Rankings
1. SEC
The Southeastern Conference is still the top conference in college football, but after this past weekend it is only based on merit. Mike Slive and the conference officials should be ashamed of themselves for allowing every team to play such boring games. It was such a pathetic schedule on Saturday that you almost wanted to knock the conference out of the top spot for that reason alone.
But you can’t. The SEC didn’t do anything to lose the top spot, and it still showed enough in the first week to prove it belongs in the No. 1 slot right now. The only team that appears to be holding this conference back is Vanderbilt, as the Commodores have returned to their losing ways without James Franklin. But everybody else looks pretty good, and the SEC West alone has four teams that are legitimately thinking national title. Two others think they can win the division.Â
Meanwhile, the East has one team seriously thinking about a national title and three others who seriously think they can win the division. So not only is there lots of power at the top of the conference. The depth is there as well, contrary to what Bob Stoops wants to claim.Â
