Saturday Blitz Conference Power Rankings

4. Big 12

Oklahoma and Baylor still look great, and Oklahoma State and West Virginia continue to show that they’re better than people thought them to be. But the Big 12 can’t surpass the other three conferences in our Week 2 Conference Power Rankings because there are too many negatives on the resume.

Let’s start with the fact that Texas got embarrassed by BYU again. Sure, this is a team that has had numerous issues with injuries and suspensions, but it is also supposed to be one of the better Big 12 teams. And that’s not the only embarrassment. Kansas State is a ranked Big 12 team that struggled to put away Iowa State, who lost to an FCS school last week. True, North Dakota State is the best FCS program out there, but they still should be nowhere near Kansas State’s level.

Add to that the fact that Kansas struggled with Southeast Missouri State and that Texas Tech just barely escaped UTEP, and the conference didn’t have a great look last weekend as it looks more and more like it will be a two-horse race throughout the season. For that, it has fallen to No. 4 for now. Let Bob Stoops try to debate it.
