Saturday Blitz Conference Power Rankings
5. Big Ten
This might be generous. Are we sure the Big Ten belongs with the other Power Five conferences after last week’s embarrassment? Well, maybe.Â
This is at least the conference that scheduled some exciting non-conference games, while the SEC and Big 12 loaded the slate with cupcakes. The Big Ten deserves credit for that. But you don’t get an E for Effort and you don’t get an A for accepting challenges. You actually have to meet those challenges, and after double-digit losses by Ohio State to Virginia Tech and Michigan State to Oregon while Michigan was blown out by Notre Dame were awful looks. And let’s not forget how Nebraska struggled to put away McNeese State, Maryland struggled with South Florida, and Penn State had problems with Akron in the first half.Â
Perhaps the conference is not as good as we thought after the first week when it had earned the No. 2 spot in our power rankings.Â
