Saturday Blitz Pac 12 Power Rankings Week 2
The Dennis Erickson Division
It seems crazy to move the Utes up this far so quickly, but the fact is, a lot of teams in the Pac haven’t looked as good as advertised this season.
In the rundown of the previous six teams, we’ve been talking about close calls with the likes of Eastern Washington, Hawai’i, UMASS and UTSA.
Utah’s schedule hasn’t been stronger than any of the previous teams, but the Utes have done nothing but look stellar.
Travis Wilson’s head-first lunge to the endzone early in the Utes’ first game against Idaho State alleviated concerns about the Jr. QB playing tentative after his return from injury. The Utes haven’t slowed down since.
Transfer running back Devontae Booker is averaging better than 7 ypc this season, giving Utah’s running game a desperately needed boost. In the passing game, the return of Kenneth Scott from injury has made it very difficult for teams to double-team All-Pac receiver Dres Anderson.
Like USC the week before, the Utes had Fresno State beaten by halftime and played 2nd and 3rd team players in the second half. The Utes now have a bye week before a trip to Michigan on Sep. 20th but for now, this looks like the best Utah team of the Pac-12 era.
