It cannot be stressed enough how patient Wake Forest fans have to be. Dave Clawson is a great coach and will eventually have the Demon Deacons competing with the best of the conference, but his system takes a while to get going, and that showed once again Saturday.
Losing to Louisiana Monroe was bad enough, but this team looked average at best against Gardner Webb, a team it should have blown out. This is going to be a long season for Wake Forest, which is living up to its reputation as the academic school that doesn’t take athletics seriously right now.
The offense, which is indeed complex and will take time to develop, appears to be confusing to the players on the field just like it was predicted to be. Clawon’s offense is all about thinking and making certain decisions, and it takes a long time for players to get used to that.
It won’t happen his first year there, so for right now Wake Forest will remain the punching bag of the ACC.
