Parity is the Story of the ACC in the Saturday Blitz Week 4 ACC Power Rankings
Saturday Blitz Week 4 ACC Power Rankings
Maybe the ACC is not as great as we thought.
With conference play among most teams finally set to begin, the ACC looks like it was always meant to look: a couple of powerhouses, one bad team, and lots and lots of parity. This is such a deep conference that all 14 teams are fighting for a chance to go bowling, and No. 2 to No. 13 appear to be on similar levels talent-wise.
So how do you distinguish them?

With very few head to head match-ups to speak of so far this year, it’s hard to tell who’s better than whom in the ACC. In a three week span, Pittsburgh beats Boston College, Boston College beats USC, and then Iowa beats Pitt. Would that make Iowa better than USC? Of course not. So before heavy conference play has even begun, we have to throw the head-to-head context a little bit to the side right now.
What’s clear, though, is one team still stands at the top of this conference, even if that team struggled a bit over the weekend. However, other undefeated teams are starting to make noise and fight for their own respect, so keep an eye on the rest of the season. This may not be a conference loaded with great teams, but it’s loaded with decent teams and has a couple of great teams. That could spell a few unlikely upsets throughout the year.
