Saturday Blitz ACC Power Rankings Week 4

14. Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 2-2 (0-0), Defeated Army Black Knights 24-21 Last Saturday

The Demon Deacons pulled off a nice win on Saturday against what is supposed to be a decent Army Black Knights team. Under first-year head coach Dave Clawson, this is another step in the process of rebuilding the program, but don’t read too much into it.

Army can’t throw the ball and has a terrible defense that allowed even Wake Forest’s terrible offense to score on it. This is a team that matched up perfectly against the Black Knights, so the win is not that impressive. The offense is still pathetic and won’t do anything as ACC play begins, so they have to stay at the bottom of the conference.

But, as Wake Forest fans have to keep being reminded, patience is a huge virtue. Clawson has a very complex offense that causes trouble for all of his first-year teams, but they take off in the second year. It is likely that will happen again at Wake, and a win against Army is not going to be enough to change that. So for now, the Demon Deacons remain where they have been for a while and where they will likely stay throughout the course of the season. But within a year, things should change.
