Saturday Blitz ACC Power Rankings Week 5

2. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 4-0 (1-0), Idle Last Saturday

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have proven they are not going anywhere with that option offense under head coach Paul Johnson in his seventh season, but now it’s time to maintain that respect. At 4-0, there is more hype around this team than in the past few years, so coming off a bye it has to keep that up.

Georgia Tech has played good enough defense to win football games, but the defense could be a good bit better. What’s scary, though, is the offense has a passing game when needed. Don’t kid yourself, this is still a rushing offense, but it took a few great throws from Justin Thomas to beat Virginia Tech on the road. If those great throws continue to happen, it’s scary how good this team can be throughout the course of this season.

The Yellow Jackets get another great test this week with a road trip to Miami, a team that appears to have found itself over the past two weeks. If Georgia Tech can get this win, then they will definitely be a legitimate top ACC team at 5-0, and they’ll be thinking about a lot more than just staying relevant. Top 25 finishes and a major bowl game could be in the works. And dare we bring up an ACC championship and playoff? Not yet.
