Saturday Blitz Vegas Big 12 Predictions Week 6
Kansas Jayhawks at West Virginia Mountaineers
Line: West Virginia by 28
Talk about differences between programs. Both are 2-2, but one is riding a wave of momentum with that record while another just fired its coach. Kansas begins life without Charlie Weis this weekend, and who can blame them? With such a bad passing game, the offense has looked terrible. Fortunately, West Virginia’s defense is up front, and that’s where Kansas’s strength is. So with that in mind, the Jayhawks need to stick to the running game. Run it a lot, control the clock, and take care of the football, and with a decent defense they will be able to have a few good drives and keep the game close. Then a few West Virginia mistakes could help it out.

With the First Pick
For West Virginia, the key has to be stopping the run at all costs. Kansas isn’t going to throw the ball on them, so if they make sure they shut down the running game, they should come away with an easy win. Clint Trickett needs to make sure his team takes care of the football as well, and if that happens the offense should have a field day against the Jayhawks. Trickett right now looks like the most accurate quarterback in the NFL, and Dana Holgorsen should use him as much as possible. The offensive line just needs to keep doing its job as well, and West Virginia should have no trouble keeping this game under control.
Prediction
Kansas will attempt to make this as close as possible to build the profile of interim coach Clint Bowen, and that means they’ll stick to the running game to mount a couple of good drives against the weak West Virginia front. But it won’t matter. The Mountaineers may be held to close game early, but it will turn into a blowout by the second half with Trickett having a few great drives of his own. This is a very good West Virginia team that is much better than its 2-2 record indicates.
