Mississippi State Beats Texas A&M 48-31

Player of the Game: Dak Prescott- 19/25 for 259 Yards and 2 Touchdowns, 23 Carries for 77 Yards and 3 Touchdowns

That headline wasn’t an accident. Mississippi State is that dominant. The Bulldogs are the best team in college football right now, and I challenge somebody to make a case for anybody else.

After beating Texas A&M 48-31 Saturday, the Bulldogs have proven that they are a dominant team in college football. In fact, for right now, they are THE dominant team.

Mississippi State initially shocked the college football world when they went into Death Valley two weeks ago on a Saturday night, by far the toughest environment in the sports, and flat out dominated LSU. Make no mistake, the Bulldogs blew out the Tigers in that game, and the only reason it was close is because of a bunch of fluke plays at the end.

Now, two weeks later, the Bulldogs have destroyed the Aggies, to the point that Texas A&M didn’t even look like it belonged on the same field as Mississippi State.

Let’s all acknowledge that with two quality wins, Mississippi State is the best team in football right now. And just so everybody knows, they have earned style points in the process. Dominance against two of the best in the SEC West has proven that Dan Mullen’s sixth team in Starkville is legit. And you can’t bet against them right now.

Yes, Texas A&M’s rush defense is bad. Yes, the defense is young overall. And don’t get me wrong, the Aggies are still a great team who will only get better in the future. But on Saturday, the Bulldogs were the powerhouse. And they should have the leading candidate for Heisman.

Dak Prescott, for the second straight game, has come through on the biggest stage. With 5 touchdowns in this one and more than 300 total yards, it’s time to question if he’s better than Tim Tebow at running this offense. He certainly looks like it.

Why not put him as the frontrunner for the Heisman when Tebow won it with a 4-loss team?

And why shouldn’t we consider Mississippi State a legitimate national title contender?

The Bulldogs have been on an 8-game winning streak dating back to last year. Next week they have a huge test against Auburn, and if they can pull off that win, the next three games are Kentucky, Arkansas, and UT Martin. That means this team could easily be 9-0 heading into a giant showdown with Alabama on Nov. 15. With that in mind, we can’t discount this team.

Earlier we did a column on how the state of Mississippi has finally caught up with the rest of the SEC when it comes to playing football, which you can see here. Well, now it’s time to add that and acknowledge that the school always known as the secondary school in the state has played a bigger role in getting the state there than their rivals. The Bulldogs have proven more than Ole Miss so far this year with not one but two quality wins, and they are the leaders right now in the state.

Usually, in Mississippi, that’s all that matters. But this year, Bulldogs fans should be thinking bigger.
