Saturday Blitz Week 6 Blitz Points Winners

6. Devontae Booker, Running Back, Utah Utes (Defeated UCLA Bruins 30-28)

33 Carries for 156 Yards and 1 Touchdown, 3 Receptions for 15 Yards

There are plenty of people who deserve credit for Utah’s upset over UCLA, including Tevin Carter, the rest of the defense, and Kendal Thompson. But the true player of the game goes to Devontae Booker. The running back’s 156 yards rushing and 1 touchdown don’t seem like blow you away type of numbers, but what really matters is when they came.

After UCLA took a 28-27 lead over Utah with 4:50 to go, we were all ready to give up on the Utes. They had blown a 13-point lead, and there was no way UCLA, as the more talented team, would fall apart now. But the Utes turned to Booker the next drive. Sure, Kendal Thompson at quarterback was highly efficient in the game, going 10 of 13 for 95 yards and a touchdown and rushing for another 83 yards, and he had 2 carries for 24 yards during the final drive, excluding the last carry he had for a 1-yard loss to set up the field goal.

But Booker was the reason behind that drive. Booker had 6 carries for 40 yards and was the heart and soul of that offense in setting up the game winning field goal to give the Utes a huge upset victory. With only 95 passing yards, the incredible Utah rush offense only happened due to Booker, so he’s the reason for the Utes’ upset.

And giving credit to him for such a surprising victory is enough to put him on our Blitz Points list.
