Saturday Blitz Vegas Big 12 Predictions Week 7

Texas Longhorns at No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners

Line: Oklahoma by 14.5

This game may not have the luster it used to have, but it still matters. The Texas Longhorns are trying to learn how to win under Charlie Strong, which is nearly a direct quote from him. With the defense continuing to show up to play, the offense has to catch up. Oklahoma clearly has some issues on offense with Trevor Knight at quarterback, and the Longhorns would be able to exploit that. But they need a complementary offense if that’s going to mean anything, and so far that has not shown up. If Tyrone Swoopes can get something going, then this could turn into an exciting match-up. Don’t forget Texas won this game last year.

The Oklahoma Sooners should be fine against Texas with their dominant front seven. They should be fine with their good running game. But they should be seriously concerned with their lack of a passing game under Knight. This quarterback is simply not that good. And Texas defense is still pretty good. So this game rest on the Oklahoma front seven and Samaje Perine. If Perine can get up to 4 yards a carry with everybody gunning for him, then they should be fine because Knight will be able to do something by then. Otherwise, Oklahoma and Bob Stoops could be in major danger of another upset.

Prediction

Texas will give the Oklahoma offense trouble and make it look ugly at times. But the Oklahoma defense will give Texas’s offense fits all day, and that’s going to be the difference. This is going to be eerily similar to the Oklahoma-Tennessee game. The Sooners will put up an impressive points showing, but it will mainly be due to their defense, not the offense. Oklahoma still pulls out an easy victory.
