Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 7

The Kansas Jayhawks played a team close. Yippie!!! Seriously, did you expect us to bump this team up simply because they only lost by a touchdown to a Big 12 rival? Not going to happen. They are still the worst team in the conference, and it’s by a wide margin.

The good news is the Jayhawks might have found an upgrade at quarterback. With Charlie Weis gone, maybe Cozart needed to go too. Michael Cummings threw for 288 yards on Saturday and kept the Jayhawks in the game, and the lack of a passing game has been this team’s biggest weakness so far. Maybe this will be an improvement for the going down the road. An offense only averaging 16 points a game needs it. At least the defense is decent, though, giving up 27 points a game. That’s not great, but it’s not atrocious.

The rest of the season, however, still doesn’t look good for this team. Texas Tech and Iowa State are their only winnable games left, and Texas Tech is unfortunately a road game. That means the best case scenario for the Wildcats this year is 3-9, which is not much to celebrate. Baylor, TCU, Oklahoma, and Kansas State all appear to be un-winnable.

And right now, they’re by far the worst team in the conference.
