Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 7

The Iowa State Cyclones don’t stand that much taller over the Kansas Jayhawks this year, unfortunately. A win over Iowa is all they have to brag about this year, and now a 7-point win over Toledo will at least keep this team from going 1-11. Again, that’s not much to celebrate.

Iowa State finally got the passing game it has needed from Sam B.Richardson over the weekend against Toledo. If it could continue to do that, meaning have 300 yards and 3 passing touchdowns with 0 interceptions, that’s about the only way it can win any of these games left on the schedule. The running game doesn’t exist for this team, and neither does a defense. So lots of passing is what’s required for this team to win any games this year. And that’s still going to be hard.

Iowa State has to travel to Texas this week and to Kansas in three weeks. That means their two most winnable games are on the road. Texas Tech and West Virginia are home games, and they could be potential upsets, so there is still a chance for this team to possibly sneak into a bowl game somehow if a ton of things go their way.

But that doesn’t seem plausible for right now, and they’ve only played well enough to not be the worst team in the conference.
