Saturday Blitz Pac 12 Power Rankings Week 7

If you wanted to put a team below Colorado for worst in the Pac-12, Washington State would be your selection. At 2-5, Mike Leach’s team has probably been the most disappointing Pac-12 squad so far this season. But we cant put them below the Buffaloes. The Cougars at least have a quality win against Utah, a win I still can’t figure out how they achieved.

It’s sad that this team isn’t winning because Connor Halliday is playing as great as any quarterback in any Mike Leach system has ever played. But for once he faced a tough defense in Stanford, and that high-powered pass offense was held to less than 300 yards. When you combine that with no rushing attack and no defense, which is a staple of Mike Leach’s teams, then it’s no wonder they lost by 17. The defense is bad enough this year, even by Leach standards, that it’s no wonder this team is 2-5 either.

And things aren’t looking up. The Cougars have to play Arizona, USC, and Arizona State, all ranked teams, so this could easily be a 4-8 or 3-9 team when everything is finished. And to get to a bowl, they need at least two wins against current Top 25 teams along with wins against Oregon State and Washington.

Simply put, right now a bowl appears highly unlikely, and that’s why the Cougars are so low in our power rankings.
