Big 12 Power Rankings Week 8: Who’s No. 1 Now?
Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 8
Charlie Strong’s Texas Longhorns can say they showed some resiliency and toughness pulling out a 48-45 win over Iowa State. But it was against Iowa State. Forgive me if I don’t freak out in excitement over that. This Texas team has a good future, but right now it is just a bad football team that can’t play a complete game. The best that can be said is the team is getting better.
Actually, that’s an understatement. Strong’s team is getting a lot better. Tyrone Swoopes is settling in as the starting quarterback after two straight games with a completion rate over 60 percent and more than 300 yards. He has also been able to maximize his dual-threat abilities, with 145 yards rushing over the past two games as well. If the defense can get back to being decent, this team could steal a few wins down the road.
It still has two home games against West Virginia and TCU, and Texas Tech is a potential win despite being on the road. That would be enough to get this team to 6 wins, but it would be extremely hard to do. If those three aren’t wins, they have to find a way to beat Kansas State or Oklahoma State on the road. Possible, but extremely unlikely.
And after struggling, we have decided to knock them below Texas Tech.
