Saturday Blitz Vegas ACC Predictions Week 9

North Carolina Tar Heels at Virginia Cavaliers

Line: Virginia by 7

This is a classic offense vs. defense match-up. The North Carolina Tar Heels finally got back on track with a solid win against Georgia Tech last week, and Larry Fedora’s group still has a lot to play for. You can count on Marquise Williams to come through and make plays every time he is called upon. But can you count on the defense to do just enough to make sure this team wins? That’s been the question every game this year, and it’s going to be the question again Saturday on the road against a good Virginia team. If the Tar Heels stiffen up enough and score enough, then they win. If not, they lose.

Virginia, meanwhile, has to focus on playing tough defense, but this week offense also has to be a factor. This squad has done just enough on offense to get by and make it to a 4-3 record. On Saturday, the Tar Heels are going to score. Can the offense score on that weak defense? If so, and if the UVA defense can get just enough stops, this is a victory for Mike London’s team at home. But that’s going to be tough against an offense that has scored on everybody. Another key factor for Virginia has to be to take care of the football. If that happens in addition to the other two things, the Cavaliers will be fine.

Prediction

North Carolina is in a rhythm right now, and despite Virginia being a good team, we don’t see that stopping. They played Notre Dame close before knocking off Georgia Tech, so it’s our honest belief that they will knock off Virginia. The Tar Heels will score just enough, and although the defense isn’t great, Virginia will have a few turnovers that secure the UNC victory on the road.
