Saturday Blitz Vegas Prediction:
South Carolina Gamecocks
This game is much more interesting than you might think.
With South Carolina at 4-4 and Tennessee at 3-5, both teams have an equal shot at a bowl game down the road after this one given their schedules, which is much easier for Tennessee. That means the winner of this game is in much better position to get to at least 6-6.
Initially, this appeared to be an obvious Gamecocks blowout. But we are thinking much differently about the Vols after the way they looked with Josh Dobbs in at quarterback through the final three quarters of the Alabama game last week. Also, Tennessee has a very good defense that played only a bad quarter against the Tide. Although they are young on the offensive line, Dobbs’s mobility at quarterback helps to alleviate that, and the skill players in Marquez North, Jalen Hurd, and others, makes this a potentially pretty good offense.
But unfortunately, South Carolina has found its rhythm. The Gamecocks looked great in almost beating Auburn last week, and Dylan Thompson made a lot of great plays. If he can avoid the turnovers in this game at home, which is what cost them the game last week, South Carolina should have no problem moving to 5-4 at home.
Steve Spurrier owns Tennessee too much to expect this to be a loss.
However, don’t be surprised if Tennessee keeps this game very close until the end.
