The Florida Gators finish their first spring under first-year head coach Jim McElwain with the school’s spring game on Saturday afternoon.

Jim McElwain inherited a roster at Florida that he said was “really insufficient” and former head coach Will Muschamp didn’t leave him with a full cupboard.

The Gators do have talent on the roster, but the coaching staff and number of injuries the team suffered the last two years made it too much to overcome a lack of efficiency and production from the most important position on the field.

Jeff Driskel is no longer the starting quarterback in Gainesville, but there is no clear answer who will be behind center when Florida opens the season on Sept. 5 against New Mexico State in The Swamp.

Treon Harris and Will Grier are the two competing for the quarterback job in what should be a more sophisticated and successful offense with McElwain’s influences putting his talent in a position to reach their potential.

That included running back Kelvin Taylor and wide receiver Demarcus Robinson who have shown flashes of being All-SEC performers but need to show more consistency for Florida to get back to the top of the SEC east standings and back to the SEC Championship Game.

Defensively, there is no shortage of talent that could end up playing on Sunday’s, especially with All-American cornerback Vernon Hargreaves.

So with Florida’s spring game on Saturday, let’s take a look at the top five storylines facing McElwain and what you should watch for from The Swamp.
