You can scratch another team off the list of transfer destinations for former Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson.

When Everett Golson announced his pans to leave Notre Dame and transfer to another school this year to play his final year of college football, the South Carolina Gamecocks were a popular pick considering he’s from Myrtle Beach, S.C.

In addition to the hometown connection, the Gamecocks lost Dylan Thompson to graduation and Connor Mitch, who is penciled in as the starter after spring practice, has thrown six passes in his college career.

But you can scratch South Carolina off the list after Steve Spurrier told The State on Wednesday, “We are not pursing (Golson). We are not really in that.”

“If he came down here and said he wanted to go to South Carolina, I may have to look at that situation, but from what I understand he’s got four or five other schools he is looking at,” Spurrier said.

Golson visited Florida State on Monday and reportedly are the favorites to land the Notre Dame transfer and Golson later visited Florida on Tuesday and Georgia on Wednesday.

Notre Dame blocked him from transferring to schools on their 2015 schedule and some select Big Ten schools so Golson’s options look to be limited to the southeast and those three programs.

Should Golson transfer to the SEC he would need to apply for a waiver after missing the 2013 season for an academic suspension and because he has less than two years of eligibility remaining.
