Dwayne Haskins commits to Maryland: Terps land four-star quarterback
Maryland landed the verbal commitment from in-state quarterback Dwayne Haskins and it could be one that lifts the Terps to new heights.
Dwayne Haskins (Potomac, MD. The Bullis School) was the one recruit the Maryland Terrapins had to land for their class of 2016 and on Friday that dream became a reality after he committed at a ceremony at his high school on Friday.

The 6-3, 198-pound Haskins is a four-star quarterback who has visited Maryland frequently throughout the recruiting process, including two trips on back-to-back-weekends in April and could be the signature recruit head coach Randy Edsall needs to take Maryland from the middle of the pack in the Big Ten to a potential contender.
Haskins is the nation’s No. 61 recruit overall regardless of position, No. 5 pro-style quarterback and the No. 2 recruit in the state of Maryland, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
He is the highest-ranked recruit to commit to Maryland since wide receiver Stefon Diggs committed in 2012.
Optimism is high for the football program — as well as the basketball program that could be a national championship contender next year — and Haskins can be the high-profile player who attracts other high-profile recruits to follow him to College Park and plays alongside him.
With seven of the top 10 recruits in Maryland uncommitted, Haskins can shift from the recruited to the role of recruiter and bring some offensive line help and some receivers to throw the ball to now that he’s on board.
Maryland moved up to the nation’s No. 25 class with the commitment from Haskins and own the No. 4 class in the Big Ten.
Haskins completed 159-of-259 passes last year as a junior for 1,936 yards with 22 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also added two rushing touchdowns and you can check out what Maryland is getting in Haskins by watching his highlights from last year in the YouTube clip below.
