Mond is the No. 266 overall player in his class, the No. 7 dual-threat quarterback, and the No. 33 overall player from the Lone Star State.
He received 11 offers in total including many from in-state as SMU, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Texas San-Antonio all extended offers his way.
Mond is the first commitment of the Bears’ 2017 class, one that currently ranks No. 7 in the country and No. 2 overall in the Big 12.
"Proud to say that have a committed to the Baylor Bears"
Mond had a very successful 2014 campaign as he threw for 1,745 yards, 20 touchdowns and four interceptions. In addition, he showed that he could rush the ball, carrying the ball 165 times for 1,142 yards and four touchdowns, earning him all-district honors. His San Antonio Reagan team went 12-2 and were 26-6A District Championship state finalists.
In watching Mond’s film, I noticed that he had tremendous touch. He has a tremendous ability to throw the ball deep and excellent accuracy. He also showed that he could reign in his arm and make the shorter passes over the middle. What fascinated me the most is how quick the ball traveled from his hand to the receiver. As soon as the ball was snapped, he got rid of the ball in a hurry.
Mond also showed tremendous pocket presence. As soon as the offensive line started to collapse, he shifted his feet just a bit, eluding his defender. He was also very apt at making throws on the run as he was able to maintain his arm strength and deliver accurate throws to his receivers.
Baylor picked up a major commitment in Mond today and it will be interesting to see what offensive weapons will want to play with him in Waco.
