Alabama picked up the commitment of in-state defensive tackle Quinnen Williams on Tuesday morning.

The Alabama Crimson Tide won another recruiting battle with their in-state rival, the Auburn Tigers on Tuesday with the commitment from three-star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams (Birmingham, AL. Wenonah) who was previously committed to Auburn.

“When I first committed to Auburn I committed as a fan instead of looking at it as a student-athlete. I grew up a diehard Auburn fan,” Williams tells Rivals. “Auburn was my dream offer. When I got the offer I decided to go ahead and commit. I really didn’t look at it from a student-athlete standpoint.

Williams is the nation’s No. 378 overall recruit regardless of position, No. 33 defensive tackle and the No. 12 recruit in the state of Alabama, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He originally committed to Auburn on Jan. 31 but decommitted on June 5,  five days after visiting Alabama for their camp and showing that he was leaning toward playing his college football in Tuscaloosa and for head coach Nick Saban.

“I see the Nick Saban plan for four years for the students and athletes is really successful,” Williams told Al.com. “You don’t have to go to the NFL to be successful. I really understand his philosophy on football and understand his plan for football to think about my four years in college and life after college.”

Williams is the 17th commitment for the 2016 class that moved up one spot to the No. 4 ranking in the country and the No. 2 class in the SEC, according to the SEC team rankings.

The 6-4, 265-pound Williams had 85 tackles, 15 sacks and forced five fumbles last year as a junior and is expected to line up at defensive end in Alabama’s three-man front.
