On a team that saw Ezekiel Elliott and Cardale Jones become media darlings and gain the respect of the entire college football world, the defensive unit of the Scarlet and Grey was perhaps the country’s worst-kept secret.
On Monday, a video was released alerting everyone that the defense is ready to go. Dubbing themselves the “Silver Bullets” after the Buckeye squads of the 1960s, the video does a nice job in reminding everyone that the defense is a force to be reckoned with, as if anyone had forgotten.
With more than half of their starters returning, the program looks to be in good shape heading into the 2015 campaign. Among the notable names are reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, Joey Bosa, Darron Lee, Joshua Perry and Adolphus Washington. All of whom figure to be in the conversation for All-Big Ten First Team honors.
Ohio State was in the top half of the defensive rankings for 2014, slotted at No. 29 in the country and only giving up 188.2 passing yards per contest. They shut out opponents twice last season, with one of them being a 59-0 win over Wisconsin, a victory that began a three-game win streak that culminated with a victory over Oregon in the title game.
Football season is almost here, and if the video is any indication, the Silver Bullets are ready and waiting.
