Amway Coaches Poll revealed: Top 25 full of teams with QB issues

The Amway Coaches Poll was released on Wednesday morning with the defending champion Ohio State Buckeyes taking the No. 1 spot to the surprise of no one, but there were a few surprising results elsewhere in the top 25.

Ohio State received 62 of 64 first-place votes in the Amway Coaches Poll with the TCU Horned Frogs and Alabama Crimson Tide each receiving one vote and coming in at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Baylor, Oregon, Michigan State, Florida State, Georgia and USC rounded out the top 10.

Five of the teams in the top 10 will have a new starting quarterback this year, so Alabama, Baylor, Oregon, Florida State and Georgia’s ranking could look really low or really high depending on the play they get from their quarterbacks.

The same can be said for No. 11 Notre Dame where Malik Zaire takes over Everett Golson as teams with quarterback issues continue to populate the top 25.

Following Notre Dame at No. 11 is Clemson, LSU, UCLA, Ole Miss, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, Oklahoma and Arkansas round out 11-20.

The final five teams are Stanford, Arizona, Missouri, Boise State and Tennessee.

By my count there are 13 teams with significant questions at the game’s most important position. Whether it’s a first-year starter, a player coming back from injury or an ineffective quarterback coming back for another turn, more than half of the top 25 is comprised of teams with a volatile quarterback picture.
