Having the Oregon Ducks as his leaders, Bryce Youngquist surprised many when he chose the Oklahoma Sooners Friday.
The Oklahoma Sooners picked up a big commitment Friday as four-star 2016 outside linebacker Bryce Youngquist (Rancho Cucamonga, CA . Los Osos) committed to the program. He made the announcement via Twitter earlier in the day.

He was offered by 12 teams in total, and many thought he would chose the Oregon Ducks, one of the teams that offered him. However, he decided that the Sooners were the best fit for him. He was recruited by Oklahoma inside linebackers coach Tim Kish who was the primary recruiter and wide receivers coach Dennis Simmons who was the secondary recruiter.

On the Sooner front, he was offered by the program on February 25 and took an unofficial visit to Norman on July 17. What makes this particular commitment a little surprising is that he named the Ducks his leaders on June 12 and many thought he would call Eugene home. However, the recruitment process can take unexpected twists and turns and it seems this was one of them.
With this commitment, the Sooner ’16 class ranks No. 55 nationally and No. 6 in the Big 12 per the 247Sports Team Rankings.
In Youngquist, Oklahoma gets a pass-rusher who is disruptive and uses his 6-foot-1, 225-pound frame to get in the face of the quarterback and make him uncomfortable in the pocket. Anytime a team has a player like that who can cause the offense to change their game plan or run it differently due to pressure, that should help the team dramatically.
The Sooners scored big today with a commitment whose odds seemed against their favor. It just goes to show you that in recruiting, you should always expect the unexpected.
