On Monday, Alabama received a decommitment from cornerback Shyheim Carter, narrowing their future secondary.
The Alabama Crimson Tide were on the receiving end of a decommitment Monday as 2016 four-star cornerback Shyheim Carter (Kentwood, LA. Kentwood) decommitted from the program per a report from Hank South of 247Sports. He had been committed to the Tide since last July.

Carter is the No. 51 player in the class of 2016, No. 5 cornerback, and the No. 5 player in the state of Louisiana per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
With the commitment of four-star cornerback Devonta Smith to Georgia earlier in the day, there is a chance that Carter may end up there as well. As Smith told Hank South of 247Sports, the pair has connections with University of Georgia director of player personnel Sam Pettito.
“With Petitto being at Georgia, that brings Shyheim Carter and I closer knowing he is there,” Smith said. “I am pretty sure that has us both seriously considering Georgia.”
Despite the decommitment, the Crimson Tide 2016 class still stands strong with 18 commitments in the fold, good enough for No. 4 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC per the 247Sports Team Rankings.
One of the top reasons for his decommitment was that he simply wanted to keep his recruitment open as his high school coach Vincent Sanders told South.
“He’s just wanting to keep his recruitment open,” Sanders told BamaOnline. “I let my kids make their own decision. He talked to his mom, he talked to me, he talked to his coaches, and he just wanted to revisit everybody and see where everything was at. Everything is so competitive. It kind of shocked me. I told him whatever he decided to do I was going to back him 100 percent.”
If in fact he does go to Georgia, he will add depth to a class that is already strong ranking No. 8 nationally and No. 4 in the SEC per the 247Sports Team Rankings. For now however, his recruitment has re-opened , which means that teams will be lining up in hopes of landing him.
