Michigan Football: Wolverines may lose Bryan Mone for season to injury

Wednesday was not a good day for defenses across the Big Ten, particularly those based in the state of Michigan.

On Wednesday, Michigan State lost their defensive leader, senior linebacker Ed Davis, for the 2015 season with a serious knee injury, and Michigan’s defense has suffered a significant loss of their own due to injury.

Michigan sophomore defensive tackle Bryan Mone broke his ankle in practice on Wednesday. He may miss the entire season according Scout.com reporter Andrew Gorringe, who is based in Utah.

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh and his staff have thus far declined to comment on the injury so we have no confirmation of its severity from the Wolverines. However, they have been close-mouthed with the media since fall camp began on Friday so nothing can really be determined from their silence.

That said, there doesn’t seem to be much optimism that this injury is less severe than reported.

The 6-foot-4, 325 pound Mone made nine tackles in 12 games as a freshman for the Wolverines last year, and started one game against Penn State. He is from Salt Lake City, Utah, and would have been the likely starter on opening night against the Utah Utes in Salt Lake City on September 3rd.

With the loss of Mone, the rest of the defensive line will have to step up and perform that much better to help the defense maintain its perception as Michigan football’s strongest squad this season.
