Just six days are remaining until the 2015 college football kickoff, and that’s the same number of sacks that stand as the single-game FBS record.

Fans love to see sacks on defense almost as much as they love seeing touchdowns on offense. A sack of the opposing quarterback can change the momentum of a series of downs or even a game. When a player gets a couple of sacks in one game, that’s considered a pretty good game.

So how about six sacks in a game?

Yes, six…and that record is held by two players; former Western Michigan linebacker Ameer Ismail, who recorded his six sacks against Ball State on Oct. 21, 2006; and Louisville Louisville linebacker Elvis Dumervil against in-state rival Kentucky on Sep. 4, 2005.

Dumervil is someone most fans are familiar with, as he has gone on to a huge career in the NFL with the Denver Broncos and now the Baltimore Ravens. He’s been named to four Pro Bowls, two first team All-Pro selections and is one of the most feared pass rushers in the game today.

Ismail, on the other hand, will have his sack record go down as his only real claim to fame. He went undrafted and did not make the roster for any NFL team after the 2006 season, despite being an All-MAC selection.

Two great defensive players who share a single record, but took completely different paths after their college career.
