The former four-star recruit out of Martin Luther King High in Lithonia, Georgia, will have to sit out the 2015 season due to NCAA transfer rules. He redshirted his freshman season with South Carolina in 2014. This means his first on-field collegiate action won’t come until at least 2016.

According to South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier on Monday morning, Green needed a fresh start and the two mutually agreed to part ways.

Green was a highly sought after recruit, being named the No. 16 ranked cornerback in the nation and No. 12 ranked prospect in Georgia. He chose to go to South Carolina over offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Florida, Auburn and in-state power Georgia among others, but he had academic issues before the beginning of last season after he enrolled. However, he was able to bring his grades back up to par, and would have been eligible to play last season if he had not redshirted.

A year ago the Indiana defense was the 93rd overall ranked defense, and the 94th ranked against the pass. While Green won’t be able to step in and contribute this season, next year he should be a very welcome addition to a secondary that is certainly in need of some shoring up.
