South Carolina Gamecocks

Let’s hug it out, Steve. The Head Ball Coach spent the offseason telling anyone who would listen to drop the term “old”. Steve Spurrier called a press conference to tell the media he is not retiring…ever.

Spurrier was apparently furious about both the media and those on the recruiting trail suggesting he would hang it up soon. It was weird, but it was the offseason so it gave us all a bit to talk about.

As for the team on the field, the offense is young and defense figures to be the backbone of this year’s team. South Carolina named Connor Mitch its starting quarterback and although he’s inexperienced, he will have one of the best receivers in the conference to throw to in Pharoh Cooper.

Book a trip to Atlanta: The team will have to become road warriors. The Gamecocks face Georgia, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas A&M all on the road. It is hard to imagine this team in Atlanta, especially with their schedule. Connor Mitch or whoever wins the starting quarterback position could surprise but it is unlikely enough to have South Carolina fans driving from Columbia to Atlanta.
