Magee, a 6’4″, 324-pound offensive lineman out of Franklinton LA, was not projected to be a part of the team’s plans this year. Magee was predicted to take a redshirt this season, and develop skills. Magee has been one of the more impressive freshman for LSU, as Magee has shown off a determination to get into playing shape by shedding 44 pounds since the beginning of summer camp.
The injured player, was rated as a 4 star recruit by both ESPN and 247, however, he was a three-star recruit by Scouts and Rivals. Magee was a Class 4A All-Star his senior year, and helped take his high school to a 12-2 record as a senior.
Per the American Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Society, a broken foot that requires surgery could need a recovery time of three to six months. Therefore, even if Magee was impressive in training camp, the wise thing for LSU to do would be to redshirt Magee and hopefully have a fully healed player next season.
Ultimately, this injury should not derail the career of Adrian Magee. While a broken foot is no small injury, especially for an offensive lineman, it is reasonable to expect Magee to bounce back from the injury and be able to help the team next season. It is a lucky break for LSU that the team was planning to redshirt Magee, which means that hopefully the team will not miss his ability too much this season.
