Ohio State Football: For Urban Meyer two quarterbacks may be better than one
Urban Meyer is pondering how many quarterbacks he should play.
Urban Meyer is no stranger to using a two quarterback system as I discussed in an article a few weeks ago. In that article I discussed J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones both saying they don’t want a two quarterback system and that it isn’t what is best for the team.

The problem with what both Barrett and Jones statements is that they aren’t in charge of making that decision. With just a week to go before the first game Meyer took time to have a presser. In that presser he answered many questions none more important and often as to who will be the starting quarterback.
When asked who would be the starter Meyer stated, via ESPN.com, “We’ll announce the starter when the first guy takes the snap”. Why not just state who the guy is and go with it?
Well because of this “It’s still very close, both guys are performing very well. If it was different skill sets, we probably would decide, but they’re not. If you look at J.T.’s game plan when he was our quarterback and Cardale’s, it was very similar. There’s a chance they’ll both play, as well, so that hasn’t really [been a factor] with our mindset with a game plan on offense.”.
For Meyer the decision is simple. It doesn’t matter who he starts. The game plan for the offense doesn’t change because both guys have a grasp of the full offense and both guys have a similar skill set. When the game starts I believe Barrett will be the starter but does that matter? Not if both guys play and they both play equally well or bad for that matter.
In the end Meyer knows what he is doing because he is forcing their opponents to prepare for both quarterbacks and that is an advantage for Ohio State. Right Coach Meyer? “If you’re not going to start, get ready,” Meyer said. “I’d like to see both guys involved. It could be in-game; it could be weekly.”
This process is not over and that isn’t a bad thing for Ohio State or the quarterbacks.
