BYU beats Nebraska on Tanner Mangum Hail Mary (Video)
In an injury-marred game, the BYU Cougars knocked off the Nebraska Cornhuskers with a dramatic Hail Mary from backup quarterback Tanner Mangum after Taysom Hill was lost to injury.
The Cougars and the Cornhuskers opened up the game with great offenses. The momentum swayed back and forth throughout the game. When it was announced that Taysom Hill would not be returning to the game, momentum was on the Cornhusker’s side.
The game situation looked bleak when BYU had to turn to their true freshman quarterback Tanner Mangum.

But despite the opposition, Mangum filled Hill’s shoes remarkably well. Mangum had a pretty nice fall camp, but his play transcended the expectations that almost everyone had for him. He went 7-of-11 passing with 112 yards one touchdown.
This one passing touchdown may be the most memorable moment of Mangum’s entire college football career.
With exactly one second left, Mitch Matthews came down with the catch directly on the goal line. The Cougars barely came out with an improbable win, but it also came with a loss.
BYU lost their starting quarterback Hill for the rest of the year with a Lisfranc injury, but it looks like the Cougars have found someone who can do enough to win games with Mangum. BYU hosts Boise State next week, who barely beat Washington. All of the suspended BYU players should be back for Mangum’s first career start.
As for Nebraska, they lost a few players as well. The team showed sparks of greatness on each side of the ball, and if they can pull themselves together they are capable of making some noise in their division. Nebraska hosts South Alabama next.
